The plane ride was very long (and cramped). We were not able to let Zeke out in San Francisco like we had hoped, but we caught a glimpse of him from the window as he was waiting to be loaded into the ginormous plane. If you look hard, you can see him there in his tan and blue crate. :o( Poor guy...
Here is the lovely Westpac Inn. People living on Okinawa know this all too well. Everyone stays here for a while after they arrive until they find a home. It had a kitchen, and our sponsors had a nice big basket of food and drinks waiting for us so we could make spaghetti at in the middle of the night (jet lag took a while to overcome).
Brian (of course) wanted to check out the Sunabe Seawall when we first arrived so we took a cab to "American Village" and walked around and finally found it. The surf was pretty small, but locals we talked to said it can get pretty big, especially around Typhoon season. This is the East China Sea behind me, pretty cool!!!
My friend from Corpus, Mara, went to high school with a girl (Molly Mayo) who now lives out here in Okinawa. Mara set me up with her and she took us to an amazing restaurant called Sushi Zen. Excellent sushi and really cool atmosphere. All the rooms have those short tatami tables where you take your shoes off and sit on mats. Also, they have little packaged wet wipes for your hands when you sit down. I have discovered that most restaurants here have these handy wipes.
We explored one Saturday at went to Tohuchi Beach on the west side of the island...
I went to the popular Cocok (pronounced cocos) Nail Salon on the Sunabe Seawall. I had a nice comfy chair overlooking the East China Sea. They painted flowers on every toe, even my little toe! Impressive...
We found a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom place out in town that is centrally located between two major bases. We met our new neighbors, Mandy and Josh Nabor. haha. They are really nice and have a playmate for Zeke, a Yorkie named Shrek.
